MAHA Receives USA Hockey Number

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – At the recent meetings of the Midwest Amateur Hockey Association Annual Affiliate meeting in Des Moines, IA a vote was passed to grant a new USA Hockey number to the Mid America Hockey Association (MAHA) with a home rink based out of Independence Community Ice. MAHA will now operate independently of the Kansas City Youth Hockey Association (KCYHA) but will continue to partake in the Kansas City Youth Hockey House League and the Mid America High School Hockey League.

The move will affect the existing Junior Mavs House and Kansas City Knights High School hockey clubs. The KCYHA remains the largest organization in the Midwest Amateur Hockey Association with close to 1,000 participants playing for member clubs the Kansas City Stars, Kansas City Saints, Carriage Club, St Joseph Griffons, Kansas City Storm Girls Club, and the Kansas City Jets High School Program.

“The KCYHA congratulates the leadership of MAHA for completing the extensive requirements necessary to be granted a their own Association status,” states Dan Carrier, President of KCYHA. " Our two associations are working quickly to address the many details that have arisen through this change. Both associations are committed to continuing to improve the opportunities our kids have available through this great game.”

An informational parent meeting is setup for July 12th at Cable Dahmer Arena at 7 pm providing the Jr. Mavs and Knights players and families the opportunity to meet staff and coaches. Program information and information about the new MAHA website MAHA-KC.com will be provided.

“We are extremely grateful for the support of Midwest Amateur Hockey Association and the KCYHA during the process of being granted a new USA Hockey number,” states Matt Lawson, President of MAHA. “This is a great chance to provide more opportunities for the families located closer to Independence Community Ice and great for the growth of hockey in Kansas City.”
